tuesday 12:48 pm

right now nick is at work thinking i am at home cleaning because his parents are coming into town tomorrow night but really i am trying to learn this dance and thinking of who is going to do it with me for the next ward talent show! make sure the volume is up and my fav part is probably 2:15-2:40

World's Largest Block Party

We headed out to the World's Largest Block Party last night; it's a fundraiser for Old St. Pat's Church. Two of our favorite bands were playing: Ben Kweller and Rusted Root.

Ben Kweller was on first, about 30 minutes after we rolled into town. It was disappointing how many people were there, but maybe only 100-200 were actually watching and listening to him play. He was great though, we're going to try to go when he comes in September.

After Ben, we decided we needed to get some new food to replace the nasty nachos we had purchased. Below, the "bucket of fries" that included nacho cheese, jalapenos and bacon; it was delicious!

Rusted Root was awesome. We had a great time listening to them, but decided to leave early because of my experience there last year (ended up walking about 3 miles home).

So, we went looking for a cab. Quite a few other people decided to go looking for a cab at the same time. After many false positives and a lot of cursing at people that ran in front of us, a limo driver pulled over and asked where we were going.

This is where the night takes a turn for the less-enjoyable. We got in the limo and headed for home.... (to be continued)

Cars Nick Sees: Zebra and Collector

First of an ongoing series

As you may or may not be aware, I commute about 2 hours a day. Part of that commute goes through a part of suburban Chicago that has an interesting mix of white trash and hicks. As a result, I see a number of interesting cars sharing the road with me. Here are two examples:

This person had painted his car in a zebra pattern, with red racing stripes. There was also a remarkable amount of rust (not pictured).

Kristin will need to remind me of the name of the guy that ran for president of ASUU that was old and collected things in the back of his truck. Here is a guy that had everything in the back of his truck from a water heater to an office chair.

I look forward to continuing this series in the future.

If only I still wore hemp, had a few months worth of hair growth on my legs and my favorite amazing concert going tie dye pants to wear (don't worry they were from J Crew, I was at least a preppy hippy)!! wow, i miss being a care free young hippie! at least for tomorrow night i will be, except for the husband and lack of illegalness!

for my own future reference..

perfect green table, nice chair but better in my signature green (the outer edge of our wedding invitations) or new signature blue (see dress in the picture below.) love the idea of turning books outward, does not involve the arranging of book spines by color hoping for it to look random. adore the print on the vase, should of splurged on the sheets or towels while they were at Pottery Barn.

the taste of chicago!

our camera was acting up the day we went to the taste, the 4th of july (our first mistake) so this is the only picture we have and it pretty much sums the whole experience up! i thought it would be on the grass under the pavillion with nice little tents along the edge...so when it was really thousands of middle-american people (if you have not heard me speak about going to a walmart in gary, indiana you may not know how i feel about the general middle-american population, just use your imagination) sweating, eating ribs and yelling at their children down a dirty street, i was less then excited! Besides my crowd rage, reminiscent of my mothers crowd rage when we accidentally went to disney world the day animal kingdom opened, we did have a few decent tastes and saw a 14 yr old chica-baby-mama get arrested! and we decided that the taste of chicago can be a metaphor for life; you have tickets, (time, money, energy) and you walk along the street (life) seeing things that look good but you don't want to use your tickets because there maybe something even better coming up but then you get to the end and you just end up hot, disappointed and hungry with a handful of now use-less tickets! so use your life tickets friends!! and next year do not ask me to go to the taste with a straight face!

Don't you wish we would post something that wasn't about the dog? (Un)fortunately, he's pretty much all that is going on.

you can skip reading this post...i will not be offended!

this little 3.7 lbs of fluff is the only thing happening in our lives right now, so you get to hear tons about him! i won't be offended if you stop reading now, i want to write things down so i can remember them and at the off chance that someone may care enough to read about him.

* within the first day he made himself a little fort in the corner under the kitchen table, he takes things he finds there and things he wants to hide from us like his leash, and whenever he knows he has done something "not ok" he runs there and just looks at us! and if you ever move anything in his "house" or his crate he notices it right away and moves it back to where it was! even when i move his blankets he goes straight to putting them back!

*he is very smart! on walks he poops on sewer grates so that i don't have to pick anything up!

* after only a week he is having very few accidents and only going to the bathroom where he is suppose to go; except when he is locked in the bathroom with us while we are getting ready and he sees us go to the toilet... he goes! frustrating, because it is the one time i can not jump up and stop him, but just another reason he is so smart!

* he is an attention magnet! we can not get a block without 4-5 people asking about him or picking him up...without asking!! most people are so rude, even when i am on the phone they ask me questions about him and go on and on and on! i worry about nick walking him alone and the girls flocking all around him, i almost want him to leave his phone at home just in case he has a brain lapse!

* he is a money leach! after just two weeks he is worth $380 a pound! walking home from the Viagra triangle last friday a man offered us $200 in cash for him and we just laughed at him!

* as of last night he is no longer a boy, he is becoming a man! on our way home from the vet yesterday we stopped at a pet store and he fell in love with this pillow toy that is bigger then him, after he threw it around and knawed on it all night he got to knoow it! i was shocked and nick just laughed!

* he has done many more funny things and has brought such fun into our house! he has taught nick to play more and spend less time on his laptop. his nightly wake ups have reminded us that we are not ready for a baby! and he has taught nick, in his own words, patience and more patience!
